Akrapovic: Mercedes-Benz SLS
2nd Apr 2012
Akrapovic continues to impress, and the new system for the SLS is a nice addition to their program. The SLS model seems to have woken up a bit in this market, of late, and we've been pleased to see more and more of them here at the Shop.
Adding an aggressive exhaust tone, but with a lighter, more powerful system is a tall task on an already highly refined chassis. The Akrapovic system is titanium throughout, which results in excellent dimensional stability, and a weight reduction of up to 27lbs over stock. The alloy actually starts life in the U.S., believe it or not.

In terms of power, the Akrapovic system frees up about 12HP and 10 lbs-ft of torque. The system features a specially designed carbon-fiber tip surround, and the tips themselves are titanium.

For improved tone, this system is offered with a "remote control" switch for controlling the integral exhaust valves. When closed, the system is just a bit louder than Stock. When opened, the system produces a more aggressive, deeper, throatier tone, but without resonating uncomfortably. When heading back down the street near home, one can hit the remote switch and put the car back to a more sedate level.

Please see here for more information, including videos of the system in action:
